AMENDMENTS TO THE GUIDELINES FOR THE
INSTALLATION OF A SHIPBORNE AUTOMATIC IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM (AIS)
(adopted on 7 December 2004)

The Sub-Committee on Safety of Navigation (NAV), at its fiftieth session (5 to
9 July 2004), agreed on the amendments to the Guidelines for the Installation
of a Shipborne Automatic Identification System (AIS), set out in the Annex. The
amendments describe the connection of the shipborne AIS installations to a
power source.

The Maritime Safety Committee, at its seventy-ninth session (1 to 10 December
2004), concurred with the Sub-Committee's view and approved the annexed
amendments.

Member Governments are invited to bring the annexed amendments to the attention
of all concerned.

2.4
Power source
The
existing text of paragraph 2.4 is replaced by the following:
"The
AIS should ideally be connected through an uninterrupted power supply (UPS) to
the ship's power supply as de-fined in SOLAS chapter II-1."
