RESEARCH WORK UNDERTAKEN BY THE WORLD MARITIME UNIVERSITY

THE ASSEMBLY,

 

RECALLING articles 2(e) and 15(k) of the Convention on the International Maritime Organization concerning the functions of the Organization and the Assembly in relation to the facilitation and promotion of technical co-operation,

 

RECALLING ALSO that the World Maritime University (WMU) was established to serve the global maritime community as the Organizations apex institution for tertiary-level maritime education, in furtherance of IMOs purposes and objectives,

 

RECALLING IN PARTICULAR resolutions A.900(21), on Objectives of the Organization in the 2000s, and A.933(22), on Sustainable financial support for the World Maritime University, through which the Assembly, respectively, acknowledged the special contribution of WMU to the attainment of the objectives of the Organization, and reaffirmed the importance and continued necessity of the University, as a high-level maritime training institution for providing, inter alia, technical advice in furtherance of the objectives and goals of the Organization and its Member States,

 

RECALLING FURTHER that, as a centre of academic excellence in the maritime field, WMU undertakes original and applied research into aspects of maritime safety and security, marine environmental management and protection, human resource development in the maritime sector, and shipping and port management, with a view to promoting the achievement of the highest practicable global standards in these fields and providing a mechanism for the international exchange, transfer and application of related knowledge,

 

RECOGNIZING that research is an important component of WMUs academic activities, which strengthens and enhances its programmes of study and contributes positively to the fulfilment of its educational mandate,

 

RECOGNIZING ALSO that WMU remains committed to research of the highest standard, which not only promotes knowledge creation, stimulates teaching and enriches higher learning, but also enhances its international academic reputation and provides a valuable
